General Newsletter From the Office of Senator Andy Kim

Happy Friday, New Jersey!

It’s been a busy week across our state and on Capitol Hill, but before we catch you up, a lot of people woke up this morning to the news that NJ Transit engineers are on strike, severely impacting service and New Jersey families.

Senator Kim made the following statement in response:

“New Jersey families can’t afford to have NJ Transit trains down. So many residents are scrambling to find ways to get to work and back home to pick up their kids. This is a mess. I have made clear to NJ Transit and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen that they need urgent negotiations to continue immediately.”

We know that so many families across our state rely on NJ Transit. If you’re impacted by this strike, you can find alternate transit options on the NJ Transit website by clicking here.

Delivering for our First Responders, Pressing for Answers on Newark Airport, and Celebrating the Return of Edan Alexander

FIGHTING FOR AND DELIVERING FOR OUR 9/11 FIRST RESPONDERS:

At a recent town hall in New Jersey, a local fire captain who was diagnosed with cancer voiced his anger at cuts made by the Trump Administration to the World Trade Center Health Program, which provides medical monitoring and treatment for 9/11 first responders.

Senator Kim had a chance to ask Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. why the program was cut and why the National Firefighter Registry for Cancer was shut down. You can watch the Senator’s exchange with Secretary Kennedy here.

Senator Kim was proud to carry the voice of that fire captain – and all New Jersey first responders – into that hearing, and hours after pressing Secretary Kennedy, the National Firefighter Registry for Cancer was reopened.

WORKING TO GET ANSWERS ON MAKING NEWARK AIRPORT SAFE:

Last weekend, Senator Kim visited the Philadelphia and Newark Airports to see first-hand the root causes of issues impacting travelers across our state and region. Making sure air travel is safe and reliable is a priority, and you can watch the Senator’s summary of his visit to Philadelphia here, and Newark here.

Senator Kim then took those findings back to Capitol Hill this week where he questioned FAA officials and received a commitment from the FAA to upgrade systems and ensure safe staffing as soon as possible. You can check out a summary of the Senator’s questions in the hearing of the Senate Commerce Committee here.

CELEBRATING THE RETURN OF EDAN ALEXANDER:

New Jersey rejoiced this week at the news of the release of New Jersey native, Edan Alexander, who was captured during the brutal Hamas terror attacks of October 7th, 2023. Edan was released from the hospital today after receiving care and is now safely back with his parents, Adi and Yael.

Introducing Our First Bill and Calling on The Trump Administration to Lead

INTRODUCING OUR FIRST BILL: RESTORING PATHWAYS TO SERVE OUR COUNTRY

President Trump has spent the first months of his second term attacking public service, but we know that public servants are part of what make this country great. Because of that, we should want our best and brightest to have a chance to help create a safer and more prosperous future for the next generation.

To do that, Senator Kim introduced his first ever bill in the Senate – one that writes the Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) program into law. This program has been a pipeline for dedicated, patriotic young people to give back. The Training Aspiring Leaders Emerging Now to Serve (TALENTS Act) would give them an opportunity to do just that. You can read more about it here or watch the Senator’s own story about being a PMF fellow here.

CALLING ON PRESIDENT TRUMP TO PUT AMERICANS AHEAD OF HIMSELF IN OUR FOREIGN POLICY

This week, Senator Kim called out President Trump for banning all U.S. agencies from working on the G-20 Summit happening later this year. The G-20 Summit is one of the biggest meetings of the top economies in the world – it's one of the key places where America and its allies can help shape a world that is safer with greater opportunities for people across our country.

You can read the Senator’s statement here.

We can’t create a better world for the next generation by abdicating our leadership to countries like China, and Senator Kim will always fight to keep America out in front.

WE ARE HERE FOR YOU:

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve you in the United States Senate. It is an honor and a responsibility we do not take lightly. We know these are difficult times, and we will continue to fight for everyone across the state of New Jersey and stand ready to serve you however we can.

Sincerely,

The Office of Senator Andy Kim
