Good morning John

This morning, like many others, I’ll be heading to Lisburn for the final day of Balmoral Show. If you are visiting today, then please call in to the DUP stand at EK23 in the Eikon Shopping Village.

Across four days, the Show hit has been a fantastic opportunity for the Party to engage with thousands of people from across Northern Ireland. There is an obvious focus on issues facing farmers, and particularly, the ill-judged Nutrients Action Programme put forward by the Agriculture Minister. I know farmers are prepared to make their contribution to efforts to improve water quality, but they are not prepared to see punitive measures imposed that will threaten livelihoods or proposals that are disproportionate and not based on robust scientific evidence.

Visitors to the Balmoral Show come from all walks of life and the discussions over the last few days, have covered all the issues that are important to people from all parts of Northern Ireland. In Parliament, at the Assembly and in Council Chambers we will continue to stand up for you on the issues that matter and deliver for you in these hard-pressed times.

On Thursday our Education Minister Paul Givan was able to take the next step forward in our campaign to deliver better childcare support for working families. From 1st September the Northern Ireland Childcare Subsidy Scheme will be extended to include primary school-age children. That will mean parents of an additional 9,000 children will now receive the 15% subsidy on childcare bills. When combined with Tax Free Childcare, it provides a reduction of up to 32% on childcare bills. Thats DUP delivery.

Instead of being at Balmoral yesterday, all our DUP MPs were in Westminster to vote on the Assisted Dying Bill. We want to support life, not assist death. Parliament should focus on research, treatment and palliative care, rather than an ill-fated scheme that is the very opposite of our principals and the principles of the NHS. We value life and will always advocate for the preservation of life. Everyone wants to lessen the suffering of those who are in pain, but that should be through treatment, research and palliative care, not through ending that life.

This Bill will come back before Parliament again next month, and we will continue to oppose any attempt to bring it forward in any part of the United Kingdom.

Thank you for your continued support,

Rt Hon Gavin Robinson MP

DUP Leader
