Tyler (he/him) found comfort in his church. But after he realized he was gay, when he heard fellow congregants, including family friends, “bashing people just because of who they love,” a place he often found peace became “very difficult to navigate.”
Tyler struggled, “As I figured out that I am gay—hearing people around me talking negatively about [being gay] on a daily basis became very difficult…it made all my anxiety and depression a lot worse. I genuinely didn’t want to continue with life any longer.” But one day, he chatted with a crisis counselor from The Trevor Project — a compassionate adult who assured Tyler that it was okay to be gay and he wasn’t alone.
