Dear Friends,
Republicans just unveiled their deadly plan to cut at least $715 BILLION to destroy Medicaid and rip away lifesaving health care from millions of Americans and nearly $300 BILLION from SNAP, the supplemental nutritional assistance program for millions of Americans.
How horrible that Republicans are laser focused on cutting more than ONE TRILLION DOLLARS from our Safety Net, literally taking food out of the mouths of babies and health care from families, seniors needing long term care, veterans and those with disabilities — all of this cruelty so they can give a massive tax cut to billionaires like Elon Musk and Trump’s MAGA donors.
Hours ago, the House Budget Committee voted DOWN this monstrosity — but only because Republicans on the Committee felt it did not CUT Medicaid benefits ENOUGH.
We must keep calling them out — and calling their offices. We have been collecting and sharing stories of HOW proposed Republican cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security are not just numbers, but people with critical needs, hopes and dreams. These proposed cuts are not just cruel, but will have devastating human impacts and consequences —
- 13.7 million would lose their insurance, hitting the most vulnerable Americans the hardest.
- Hospitals and nursing homes would face drastic reduction of services and possible closure.
- People with chronic medical conditions like cancer and diabetes would go without treatment, suffer devastating health outcomes and rack up medical debt if they lost their health coverage.
- These cruel cuts would disproportionately affect low-income, rural, Black, Latino, and Indigenous populations — reversing our progress in reducing these disparities.
This Trump-Musk Republican assault on our American safety net MUST NOT succeed. We are fighting back and we will win.
Along with fighting to Save Our Health Care from Republican attack, Democrats are supporting our proud American tradition of humane immigration. This week, I joined colleagues and advocates on the steps of the Supreme Court to say in no uncertain terms, “birthright citizenship to everyone born in the USA is here to stay!”
As always, I value your ongoing activism, welcome your comments and thank you for your support and your friendship.
