The Trump administration is trying to strong-arm states into enforcing its extreme immigration policies by threatening to withhold billions in federal funding for emergency services and transportation safety.

Under Trump’s plan, state agencies would be forced to divert already scarce personnel and resources to help carry out federal immigration enforcement, even if it violates state laws or agency policies.

Here in Maryland, our laws limit state and local cooperation and make clear that immigration enforcement is primarily a federal responsibility. The Trump administration is attempting to force Maryland to act against its laws and threatening the safety of ALL Marylanders.
