A Message from Gabe:
Greetings Rhode Islanders,
This week, I spoke out against Republicans’ extreme plan to kick over 13 million Americans off health care, gut food assistance for about 11 million hungry people, and push the promise of higher education further out of reach for over 4 million hardworking Americans — all to partially pay for a massive tax giveaway for the richest 1%.
Instead of making the wealthy finally pay their fair share, this bill would save working families just $265 per year, less than $1 per day, while saving millionaires tens of thousands of dollars. That isn't right — it's a broken promise and a betrayal of the American people.

Democrats are united against this dangerous bill because it takes from the vulnerable to pad the pockets of billionaires.
I'm working to protect your health care and help families put food on the table. Our country is strongest when we invest in people — not when we pull the rug out from working Americans to fund a tax break for those at the very top. The bill did not pass because Republicans could not agree on how much more they wanted to cut from essential programs. I will stay vigilant as Republicans push through these reckless policies.

Sincerely, |

Do you oppose the Republican plan that could cut Medicaid and food assistance programs? |

I supported passage of H.R. 1682, Benefits that Endure for Lifetimes of Service (BELO'S) Act this week in the House of Representatives. Named after First Sergeant Marc Belo who passed away from service-related cancer in 2024, this bipartisan bill would provide free National Park lifetime passes to the families of veterans who passed away from a service-related illness or accident.
First Sergeant Belo gave 30 years of his life to our country – serving as a first responder at the Pentagon on 9/11 and a Black Hawk helicopter pilot.
The bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.

I was grateful to meet with National Brain Tumor Society advocates from Rhode Island.
Right now, our nation should be investing in the advancement of brain tumor research, not cutting funding.
I’ll continue to push for medical research to work towards breakthroughs and save lives.

In the Ocean State, water is our greatest resource.
It was great meeting with the National Marine Manufacturers Association to discuss how our Blue Economy is creating jobs, protecting waterways, and fostering sustainable development in the RI marine industry.
I’m committed to building a blue future together.

I was honored to meet with the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader.
With Rhode Island's First District being home to a flourishing Dominican diaspora, it was great to discuss our work to strengthen the relationship between our nations.

Since 1986, the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit has developed over 7,400 homes and supported 10,700 jobs in Rhode Island's First District.
I am proud to support expanding this progress with legislation to finance more affordable homes that would ease the cost of housing for working families.

Our postal service plays an indispensable role in our daily lives — delivering prescriptions, packages, and paychecks. This service connects communities and ensures mail and packages are delivered.
In Congress, I will work to keep our post offices public and protect retirement benefits.

Defending Medicaid and People with Disabilities on the House Floor |
 |
CLICK HERE TO WATCH: Congressman Amo calls out Republicans' plan to slash healthcare coverage and harm Rhode Islanders.
|
I took to the House floor this week to stand against Republicans’ policies that attack Medicaid and stand up for Americans with disabilities, like our neighbor Pranoy.
Pranoy lives with Down syndrome and uses an adaptive communication device with specialized software to communication — paid for by Medicaid. Ripping away health care from people with disabilities is not just wrong, it's immoral.
I will not stop fighting against these dangerous cuts because the health and well-being of Rhode Islanders is at stake.

Blasting Late Night Hearings that Could Cut Healthcare, Advance Tax Giveaways |
 |
CLICK HERE TO WATCH: Congressman Amo exposes the Republican budget plan that could gut Medicaid and give tax breaks to the wealthy.
|
This week, under the cover of night, Republicans spent 24 hours straight pushing forward a bill that could gut Medicaid. Meanwhile, their policies are offering massive tax giveaways to the ultra wealthy.
This bill would rip away the health care of 1 in 4 Rhode Islanders and over 13 million Americans.
I will not stop pushing back against this Republican budget plan to cut Medicaid because too many Americans’ health is at risk.

House Democrats’ Litigation Task Force Challenges Trump’s Unlawful, Chaotic Imposition of Tariffs |
I joined 147 Democrats’ to file an amicus brief challenging President Trump’s sweeping and chaotic tariffs unconstitutionally imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). Our brief stands up for Congress’s constitutional authority to regulate commerce and supports blocking President Trump from imposing tariffs, which have wreaked havoc on Rhode Island, small businesses, and consumers across our country.
Donald Trump's policies do not care about the economic pain Americans feel due to his reckless tariffs. I will continue standing up to President's unconstitutional actions and fighting to lower costs for working families.

Supporting NOAA's Mission to Avert Disasters |
 |
This week, I met with climate scientist and former National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) employee Tom Di Liberto alongside Democratic members of the Science, Space, and Technology committee. Tom detailed the harms of Trump’s cancellation of NOAA's Billion-Dollar Disasters Report, a report that is critical for producing information to understand the impact of extreme weather on our communities.
Billion-dollar disasters don’t go away just because we stop tracking them— we just won’t be able to quantify the scale of damage. For Rhode Islanders, these disasters aren't just data, they have real, and often devastating, consequences. We experienced our own billion-dollar disaster in December 2023 when extreme flooding rocked Rhode Island and states up and down the East Coast, causing $1.3 billion in damages and taking 5 lives.
Cutting critical data collection and science efforts at NOAA and the National Weather Service will put Rhode Islanders and Americans in harm's way, but Republicans have not brough back funding. I will keep working to end the disruption at NOAA to ensure the safety of Rhode Islanders.

Speech in Defense of Edesia Nutrition's Lifesaving Work |
 |
CLICK HERE TO WATCH: Congressman Gabe Amo demanded Secretary of State Marco Rubio restore funding to Rhode Island-based Edesia Nutrition. |
Companies like Edesia Nutrition reflect American values – supporting American farmers, creating jobs, and helping treat malnutrition and famine around the world through the generous support of the American people.
Secretary Rubio has not provided Edesia with the contracts and certainty they need to save lives.
This means thousands of children are dying, American farmers' products are sitting in warehouses, and a Rhode Island manufacturer is facing economic uncertainty. I took to the House floor to call on the Secretary to do the right thing. The stakes are literally life and death.
