As a father, few things matter more to me than the health and safety of my kids. Public health has always been a top priority of mine, and in the General Assembly, I demanded transparency in prescription drug pricing— and I won.
I’ve carried that same mission to improve access to healthcare to Congress. But the Trump administration hasn’t made it easy. Their onslaught of attacks on Medicaid has made it difficult to lower costs and expand access.
Let me make it clear: Medicaid is a lifeline for millions of Americans. If they go through with these cuts, more than 10 million people will lose coverage. Right here in Virginia, everyone who benefited from Medicaid expansion could lose access — that’s about 600,000 people across the Commonwealth.
These cuts to Medicaid will hurt our community and communities across Virginia and the country. That’s why this fight is personal.
We’re in a position where, despite being the richest and most powerful country in the world, we’re not willing to ensure healthcare access to our kids, our seniors, and the people who need it most. And that’s a shame.
We should be expanding coverage, not taking it away from those who need it the most.
