Email from Rep. Hinson Friend, Congress and the Trump Administration have made historic progress rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse in our government—identifying significant cost savings and making the government more efficient for Iowans. As a member of the House DOGE Caucus, I am committed to making President Trump's government efficiency efforts the law of the land. As part of my commitment to transparency and accessibility, I'll be hosting a telephone town hall this coming Monday, May 19th at 6:30pm CT with my friend and fellow Iowan, Senator Joni Ernst—who also happens to chair the Senate DOGE Caucus and the Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship. We will be providing an update on our work implementing DOGE in Congress and answering any questions you have for us. If you want to be sure you don't miss it, sign up here and we will call you! Monday, May 19th at 6:30pm CT Dial in: (833) 364 1469 Hearing from my constituents is my top priority, and I look forward to connecting with folks from across Iowa's Second District! Best, Hearing from Iowa's Hardworking Small Business Community I recently had a great visit to River City Logistics where we talked about the latest updates and future of Iowa’s trucking industry. Our truckers are essential to keeping supply chains moving and our economy strong! After touring their facility, we had a productive meeting to discuss the issues impacting our transportation and logistics industry. I look forward to continuing to advocate on their behalf in Congress. I also made a visit to T and T Equipment Rentals, another small business in Dubuque County. I'm thankful to their awesome team for sharing their story and teaching me more about their operation. As a small, family-owned business, they contribute greatly to the local economy and community in Dubuque. Lastly, I stopped by Farnear Holsteins for a tour of their farm! Agriculture is the heart and soul of Iowa’s economy, and our farmers are counting on a return to common sense. I’m fighting to lower taxes, pass a 5-year Farm Bill, and provide regulatory certainty for Iowa farmers. Supporting Our Brave Law Enforcement Officers During National Police Week Happy National Police Week! Saying thank you to brave law enforcement officers and their families will never be enough to honor their service and sacrifice to keep us safe. This week, I voted in favor of four pro-law enforcement bills: the Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act, the Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act, the Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act, and a resolution supporting local law enforcement officers. I want to protect those who protect us, and that’s exactly what these commonsense bills do—from improving our ability to support police officers’ mental health to strengthening law enforcement readiness and safety. I will continue fighting tooth and nail to defend law enforcement officers and fight any and all attempts to defund the police. In Case You Missed It: Quick Hits I announced the winner of Iowa's Second Congressional District's Art Competition, Asia Carter. I wished a happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there, including my own! I commended President Trump for bringing China to the negotiating table and fighting for fair trade deals! I thanked this administration for bringing home an Israeli-American hostage held by Hamas terrorists. April's inflation report came in below expectations. Promises made, promises kept! I questioned Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons about how Congress can support efforts to ensure ICE has the resources they need to deport illegal aliens and fully secure our border. I also questioned USCG Acting Commandant Admiral Kevin Lunday to discuss combatting illicit trade activities and more. I met with Jay Faison with American Flood Coalition for an insightful meeting about flood preparedness. I welcomed the Community Bankers of Iowa to my D.C. office! I thanked the Mason City Chamber of Commerce for the incredible work they do advocating on behalf of Iowa's small business community.
