BREAKING: Republicans Just Voted to Gut Your Health Care, Enrich Billionaires

Dear Neighbor,

This week, Republicans in my Energy and Commerce Committee held a 26-hour markup through the night to advance the largest Medicaid cut in history – all so that they can fund tax breaks for billionaires and large corporations. They forced the debate late into the night to keep it hidden from the American people – waiting until most of the country was asleep and wouldn’t notice.

Republicans want to rush this legislation through because they know the American people will be outraged by what’s in the bill. We saw it on the first day of the markup as protesters gathered outside our Energy and Commerce hearing room and voiced their opposition to the Republican Medicaid cuts.

How did Republicans respond? They had advocates with disabilities in wheelchairs arrested.

For months, President Trump and Congressional Republicans promised the American people they would not cut Medicaid benefits or strip away people’s health care. Well, actions speak louder than words, and now that they’ve advanced this bill, we know that it was a lie all along.

Here’s the truth: at least 13.7 million Americans will lose their health care coverage if this bill is signed into law.

This is not the end though. The bill still needs to be passed in the House and Senate and then signed into law by the president. Democrats are going to fight to put a stop to this because these cuts are cruel and they shouldn’t happen in the United States. We’ve defeated Republican health care repeal attempts before and we can do it again.

Honoring Bill Pascrell at Paterson Great Falls

The House overwhelmingly passed my legislation to rename two prominent sites at Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park in honor of my late friend Congressman Bill Pascrell, Jr.

The Bill Pascrell, Jr. Scenic Overlook Trail Bridge and Bill Pascrell, Jr. Overlook Park will serve as lasting tributes to Bill, who dedicated his life to public service and to preserving his hometown of Paterson’s role in American history. Without Bill, Great Falls wouldn’t be a national park, and the story of Paterson’s contribution to the American Industrial Revolution might have been lost to history. Renaming these sites in his honor is a small but lasting way to recognize everything he did to lift up his community and preserve its legacy.

National Police Week

During Police Week, I always think of my dad, who served as a police officer in NJ. He believed in protecting people and doing what’s right.

That’s why it’s so disappointing to see Republicans turn their backs on law enforcement. The Trump administration has canceled over $800 million in DOJ grants that help police departments, protect kids, and prevent violence. All the while Trump and Republicans continue to defend the January 6 rioters who assaulted officers and refuse to honor those who stood their ground.

You can’t claim to support officers while gutting their funding and siding with the people who attacked them.

Spring Awards Ceremony

It was an honor to recognize students in my district at this year’s Spring Awards Ceremony at Middlesex College in Edison. At the ceremony, I announced the recipients of the Congressional Award, this year’s U.S. Service Academy nominees, the winners of the 2025 Sixth Congressional District High School Arts Competition, the winners of the Congressional App Challenge and the winners of the tenth-annual Poetry Showcase.

These students have showcased their talents, achievements, and initiatives, which would not have been possible without the support of their teachers, families, and mentors. I was proud to highlight their outstanding work, and I look forward to seeing everything that they will accomplish in the future!
