Team, on her very first day as Mayor of Los Angeles, Mayor Bass didn’t head directly to City Hall.

Instead, she went straight to the Emergency Operations Center and declared a state of emergency on homelessness — sending a clear message: Angelenos couldn’t wait.

Her bold first action set the tone for everything that has followed — including the launch of Inside Safe, a citywide effort to revitalize communities and address encampments by bringing Angelenos off the streets and inside.

A new independent study this week just found that the innovative “We Are LA” program is making a difference in helping to keep people housed and preventing them from falling into homelessness.

Through this comprehensive approach, homelessness dropped for the first time in years — bucking increasing nationwide trends.
