Legislative Update

We’re closing in on the end of this year’s legislative session and I wanted to provide a quick update on some recent developments as we move toward the finish line.

*Final Stretch of Session*

With just days left before the May 19th deadline, we are working around the clock to get a balanced budget delivered to Minnesotans. I am happy to announce we’ve reached an important benchmark on the way to that goal: Late Wednesday, legislative leaders announced a new budget target agreement that helps restore fiscal balance in our state. The deal eliminates nearly half of the structural deficit caused by the Democrats.

*Supporting Agriculture and Rural Priorities*

The agriculture conference committee has been meeting this week to finalize the details of this year’s agriculture legislation. I’m working hard to ensure that the voices of our rural communities are represented in every provision we discuss. Our ag producers and rural families deserve policies that support their hard work – not burdens that hold them back.

*Honoring the Men and Women Who Keep Our Communities Safe*

This week, we recognized National Police Week by passing a House resolution honoring the service and sacrifice of Minnesota’s law enforcement officers. I’m proud to support our law enforcement through my work on the Public Safety Committee and back home. Please take a moment to thank an officer for all they do to keep our communities safe.

While progress is being made, there’s still a lot to get done before session wraps. I’ll be sure to provide a more in-depth update next week once more of the details have been finalized. As always, I remain focused on fighting for common-sense solutions that serve the people of our district and reflect the values of Greater Minnesota.
