Friends,

The Supreme Court could soon rule on “qualified immunity” for police officers.

The current rule, which was established by the high court in the 1960s, protects on-duty police from liability in cases of civil rights violations. But in recent years, two of the Supreme Court’s liberal justices have spoken out against it.

In a 2018 dissent, Justices Ginsburg and Sotomayor agreed that the doctrine created an “absolute shield for law enforcement officers, gutting the deterrent effect of the Fourth Amendment.”

With new qualified immunity cases on the docket this summer, the Supreme Court could act to amend the rule -- or remove it entirely. The high court is also expected to rule on the release of Trump’s tax returns, the future of DREAMers, and a woman’s right to choose before the year is out. With so much of America’s future in the hands of the conservative-majority court, we’re reaching out to solidify support for our liberal champions on the bench -- please, tell us now:
