Welcome, Bishop Sambo!
As you may have heard, in April, Mozambique got a new Bishop! Bishop João Sambo's name is likely very familiar. Previously he served as episcopal secretary to Bishop Nhanala.

Nearly half of Bishop Sambo's first month on the job was spent in the United States, but at least he could reconnect with some friends in Missouri during his trip. Following the Council of Bishops meeting in Chicago in April, Bishop Sambo and his wife made a quick weekend trip to Missouri. On May 3, he met with Missouri UMC members, who recalled him preaching there when he was in seminary. That evening, the Sambos met with Conference staff at Missouri Bishop Robert Farr’s home for a barbecue.

Celebrating MI's Financial Impact Since 2015

In the last decade, over $7.4 million in second-mile, beyond apportionment giving has helped fuel our collective work. Read more →

Share the Impact of Clean Water
The Mozambique Initiative supports access to safe, clean water in Mozambican communities by drilling hand pump and solar-powered tower wells. The need for clean water is great in Mozambique: About half of the population doesn’t have access to safe water. Hand-pump wells and solar tower wells provide access to this life-saving resource in remote locations.
We’ve created resources, so you can share with your church group how access to clean water is changing lives. Download a one-page info sheet, shareable infographics and more at www.mzinitiative.com/donations/solar-wells
