Van Binsbergen
Dear Neighbor,
Greetings from the Capitol, where our May 19 deadline to adjourn is rapidly approaching and time is short after House Democrats refused to come to work the first 23 days of this session.
Our biggest responsibility for this session remains to set a new two-year state budget. A big breakthrough came Wednesday night when an agreement was reached between the House, Senate and governor. It includes big-time victories for House Republicans on our top priorities this session, from the largest spending reduction in state history at $5 billion to zero tax increases on Minnesota families and beyond.
I’ll share more details once things become official, but there will be a lot of good news to report for Minnesotans after two years of suffering reckless spending and unnecessary tax increases under the former trifecta. We plan on working through the weekend in St. Paul to iron out the details, pass bills and wrap things up as soon as possible.
*Speaking up for small businesses*

While it is well known that high health insurance costs are crushing family budgets, this week on the House floor I spoke about how sky-high premiums are a massive burden on small businesses as well (pictured above). Overregulation and unnecessary state mandates are major factors driving up prices and Twin Cities liberals have only made things worse in recent years. We need to peel those back to rein in runaway costs for businesses and families alike.
*Supporting fallen peace officers*
v
Thursday was Peace Officers Memorial Day honoring the brave men and women in law enforcement who gave their lives in the line of duty. This day is part of National Police Week, which runs through Saturday. Thank you to our law enforcement officers for your commitment to keeping our communities safe. May we always remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in doing so.
Watch for more news soon. Until then, have a great weekend and please stay in touch.
Sincerely,
Scott
