Hi John,
Today, House Republicans’ devastating budget package is one step closer to final passage.
Republicans are moving forward with a plan that would slash funding for programs like food assistance and health care in order to pay for tax breaks for the wealthy. This week, three key House committees—Agriculture, Energy and Commerce, and Ways and Means—went through and revised the bills. That’s where those deep cuts you’ve been hearing about came from. Now, the bills are heading to the House Budget Committee, where they’ll be combined into one big package that Speaker Mike Johnson hopes to bring to a vote before Memorial Day.
What Republicans do in the next few days isn’t abstract politics—it will shape whether millions of Americans can afford food, health care, and housing. This is a moment of real consequence. And the most powerful way to respond isn’t just outrage—[it’s organizing to take back the House next year and end MAGA’s grip on power]([link removed]).
We can’t stop this legislation. And that feels like yet another gut punch reminder of the devastating consequences of the last election.
But here’s the thing: [We can create costs for the vulnerable Republicans who support this—by speaking to them in the only language they seem to understand: organized money.]([link removed])
Vulnerable Republican incumbents on [Swing Left's target list]([link removed]) played an important role in advancing this terrible legislation:
- Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01) and Gabe Evans (CO-08) delivered key “yes” votes on the Energy and Commerce Committee package, which includes huge cuts to Medicaid. This would cause approximately 13.7 million Americans to lose their health care coverage, some rural hospitals to close, and nursing homes to turn away poor seniors.
- Don Bacon (NE-02), Zach Nunn (IA-03), Derrick Van Orden (WI-03), and Rob Bresnahan (PA-08) on the House Agriculture Committee approved $300 billion in spending cuts to our largest anti-hunger program, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which helps more than 42 million people in the U.S. pay for food.
- In the Ways & Means Committee, David Schweikert (AZ-01) voted to permanently lower taxes for millionaires and raise taxes for everyone else.
If you’re ready to send a message that these votes have a political cost, pitch in now to give directly to the Democrats in the key races that will decide control of the House:

Winning a House majority will give Democrats a lever of governing power to put a check on Trump and the MAGA agenda. We only need to gain three seats.
