Lt. Governor Tressel Announces Record TechCred Results for March

"May TechCred application period now open"

(COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Lt. Governor Jim Tressel announced today that March was a record-breaking month for Ohio’s TechCred program.

A total of 651 employers were awarded from the March TechCred application period, providing the opportunity for Ohioans to earn 8,830 tech-focused credentials. Both of these figures represent new high-water marks for a single application period in the program’s history.

“TechCred is all about our state teaming up with employers to build a future-ready workforce, and it’s clear from this record-breaking month that Ohio and its employers are all-in,” said Lt. Governor Tressel. “The program is also extremely beneficial to employees. They are gaining skills that they will be able to use for the rest of their lives as our industries continue to evolve – creating a road to prosperity for themselves and their families.”

TechCred [ [link removed] ] helps businesses address their workforce needs by upskilling current and prospective employees with the credentials needed for a tech-infused economy. Top industries funded this round include manufacturing, educational services, and construction, which continues to show that Ohioans working in any industry can use TechCred to upskill. Businesses of all sizes, from any industry, are eligible for up to $30,000 per round and up to $180,000 per year.

“When businesses support the growth of their employees, they both thrive,” said Lydia Mihalik, Director of the Ohio Department of Development. “If you’re looking for your dream job or to start or grow your business, Ohio is the place to be, and the TechCred program can help make it happen.”

“TechCred exemplifies the strong collaboration of training partners and industry in Ohio,” said Ohio Department of Higher Education Chancellor Mike Duffey. “The success of these partnerships is leading to a more skilled and better prepared workforce.”

The May TechCred application period for Ohio employers is currently open and will close on May 30, 2025, at 3:00 p.m.
