Good morning!

There are only a few days left in the legislative session and we have much left to do. Since it is the last weekend, we will be in St. Paul both Saturday and Sunday so that we can complete as much business as possible before adjournment on Monday. An agreement was made on budget targets, which was a crucial step towards reaching the finish line. The targets reflect the largest budget cut in state history, without raising taxes or making destructive cuts to vulnerable groups such as schools, hospitals, or families. We are certainly in a time crunch, which was not helped by the Democrat's boycott at the beginning of session, but I am optimistic that we will be able to wrap up in the next week.

Health Bill

We passed the Health bill earlier this week, and I’ve received a lot of questions about it. I want to take a moment to break down what’s in the bill and explain why I supported it.

Coming out of negotiations in the House, the final bill includes several key provisions that reflect real wins for Minnesotans, especially those living in Greater Minnesota:

*

*No funding for free health care for adult illegal immigrants.* This was a major concern for many constituents, and I made it clear throughout the session that taxpayer-funded benefits should be prioritized for citizens and legal residents.

*

*Support for rural EMS services.* Ambulance and emergency medical services in rural areas have been stretched thin. This bill helps stabilize those critical services that save lives across Greater Minnesota.

*

*Support for rural hospitals and pharmacies.* These institutions have faced severe financial strain in recent years, with closures and cutbacks putting local care at risk. The bill provides direct support to help keep them operating.

*

*Targeted cuts to both MinnesotaCare and the Department of Health*. This reverses the trend of unchecked government growth and ensures state dollars are used efficiently rather than feeding bureaucracy.

*

*NO new taxes.* Most importantly, the bill protects providers and patients by rejecting any tax hikes, including the provider tax that Democrats have repeatedly pushed. Holding the line on taxes was a top priority for House Republicans.

*

*Reduced overall spending.* This bill reins in the overspending from last session’s bloated budget and starts moving the state back toward fiscal responsibility.

This session has been one of the most difficult I’ve been part of. With the House tied, every vote has been a fight. Still, this Health bill moves us in the right direction. It addresses real problems without expanding government or burdening taxpayers. That is why I voted yes.

If you have specific questions about the bill, reach out. I am here to provide answers as necessary.

National Police Week

This week, we had the opportunity to recognize and celebrate National Police Week, a time dedicated to honoring the service, dedication, and sacrifice of law enforcement officers across our state and country. These men and women put on the uniform every day knowing the risks involved, and they do it to protect our communities, uphold the law, and respond when we need them most.

This week was also a time to remember those officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their courage and commitment should never be forgotten. We owe a debt of gratitude not only to them but also to their families, who bear the weight of that service every single day.

In communities across Minnesota, law enforcement plays a vital role in keeping people safe. Whether responding to emergencies, building trust with residents, or working behind the scenes to prevent crime, their work matters. It is important that we not only thank them but also support them with the resources and respect they deserve.

I am grateful for the service of all of our officers, and will continue to advocate for policies that support public safety and honor those who serve in law enforcement.

A Visit from Congressman Tom Emmer

Congressman Tom Emmer came to visit this week, and it was great to see him again. He is a former representative in the Minnesota House, although he was on his way out when I was first elected. Regardless, it is always great to see our D.C. counterparts back in Minnesota. Thank you, Congressman Emmer, for your service and commitment to all Minnesotans!
