New GOP Bill Would Basically Ban Porn, Experts Warn

"Obscenity is 'outside the bounds of the First Amendment,' explained Mike Stabile, director of public policy at adult industry trade organization, the Free Speech Coalition. Twenty-two states now have age verification laws, and the Free Speech Coalition, which represents adult content sites and creators, has seven lawsuits in the works. Non-Profit Sues Porn Sites For Alleged Kansas Law Violation

A national non-profit has filed lawsuits against four adult websites, claiming they violated Kansas’ new age-verification law by failing to block minors from accessing explicit content. The lawsuits were filed after a parent alleged their 14-year-old accessed hardcore pornography online. Kansas’ age-verification law, passed last year, allows parents to sue for damages starting at $50,000 per violation. Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach has also filed a separate lawsuit against a different group of adult websites under the same law. Read more on KSNT.

Asa Akira and other top performers gathered in Los Angeles for the Pornhub Awards, discussing the growing impact of age-verification laws, social media censorship, and financial instability in the adult industry. Akira emphasized that porn shouldn’t be a substitute for proper sex education and called for better societal approaches to teaching young people about sex. Meanwhile, Pornhub’s reduced presence in multiple states due to new laws is hurting performers’ incomes, and increasing censorship makes promoting their work even harder.
