Hi,
You might recall that on his first day back in the White House, President
Trump tried to attack U.S. citizens and trample over the Constitution by
issuing an unconstitutional executive order to end birthright citizenship
— and I immediately filed a lawsuit to stop him.
Now, this critical fight for one of our most fundamental rights has made
its way to the United States Supreme Court, where oral arguments were
heard earlier today.
The Trump administration is currently trying to overturn a lower court’s
decision to issue a nationwide injunction and block the executive order
from taking effect. Today’s hearing was an important milestone in this
case, which can have massive consequences for our families, our
communities, and our democracy as we know it. But, today was not the end
of the road.
I’m proud to stand together with my fellow attorneys general as we
continue to defend the 14th Amendment, which guarantees citizenship for
people born on U.S. soil or naturalized in our country.
The Supreme Court settled this issue 127 years ago, and the law has been
clear. Neither Trump nor any other president can rewrite the Constitution
with the simple stroke of a pen.
Today was one step in an ongoing process to defeat this unlawful attack on
our rights: know that we’ll be here every step of the way. [ [link removed] ]If you have
