True the Vote boasted about plans to challenge the eligibility of over 364,000 voters — not on our watch.

“The actions here represent, in my view, based on my 30 years of litigating voting rights cases, the most egregious instance of violations of 11 B [of the Voting Rights Act] and an opportunity for the Federal courts to set out a clear standard.”
— Marc Elias, May 9, 2025

This week, a federal appeals court heard our appeal in Fair Fight v. True the Vote — where we’re holding an extreme anti-voter group accountable for trying to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of voters ahead of the 2021 U.S. Senate runoffs in Georgia.

True the Vote launched an effort to silence people who were disproportionately people of color and first-time voters with mass voter challenges, just weeks after Georgia flipped blue in a presidential election for the first time in 28 years.

But this case is about more than just one election. It’s about more than one state.

This is about enforcing the Voting Rights Act and a national standard against voter intimidation to address a growing threat against vulnerable communities. Mass voter challenges are spreading from state to state as a key tactic in the voter suppression playbook. Through this case, and through our broader work, we are exposing this coordinated anti-voter machine. There’s a nationwide network of political operatives, dark money, and right-wing organizations trying to make it harder for Americans — especially groups like voters of color, military voters, and students — to vote and have their voices heard, and they are not giving up any time soon.

And don’t get it twisted, team. Bad actors are using these scare tactics and suppression efforts to intentionally target communities of color. It’s Jim Crow 2.0. While it may not be a literacy test or poll tax, forcing voters to undergo any unreasonable hurdle to maintain their voter registration status after purging attempts is inherently anti-democratic and violates federal voting rights protections.

This case is so significant to our broader work against mass voter challenges. Fair Fight has:

✅ Exposed the anti-voter intentions behind mass purge attempts by spreading detailed information about how right-wing activists base their allegations on unreliable data

✅ Built a network of volunteers to systematically monitor potential mass voter purges across Georgia, who’ve uncovered attempts to disenfranchise voters and submitted open records requests to challenge suppression efforts

With voter purges gaining traction in other states such as Texas, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, we have to keep up the fight.

As these anti-voter tactics spread across the country, it’s more critical than ever that we’re prepared to fight back. Can you make a donation to Fair Fight today to continue powering our pro-voter work?

“That is the largest mass challenge in American history, at least since the Jim Crow South. So you would literally have to go back to the days of people having to guess the number of jelly beans in a jar to find a larger effort to disenfranchise on a mass basis.”
— Marc Elias, May 9, 2025

Our work is grounded in a long legacy of voting rights activism. We learned from those who came before us — who experienced the Jim Crow South, who marched from Selma to Montgomery on the frontlines to ensure voting rights for ALL.

The fact that experts are recognizing this moment as eerily similar to the pre-Voting Rights Act era should have us all concerned.

That’s why every day, day in and day out, Fair Fight is tracking any new attempts at baseless mass voter challenges so our volunteer network can spring into action and fight back to ensure voters can stay on the rolls and make their voices heard.
