Dear Comrade,
Today at 3pm our DSA chapter is hosting our June general membership meeting via Zoom. Our General Body Meeting is the forum in which our whole chapter--across campaigns and regions come together to discuss our work and decide on how we are going to continue our work..
Just this Friday, Metro DC DSA stood alongside allies to demand the DC Council defund the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and fund care, not cops! But the movement for Black freedom and community power is only getting started.
At today’s General meeting, we will be discussing the direction of this historic movement and how our chapter can best accomplish the goals of the Defund MPD campaign. We will hear from Twin Cities DSA co-chair Rita T. about how the movement for Black lives is playing out in the city where police murdered George Floyd. Our chapter’s Defund MPD working group will present on our local campaign and how you can join the fight for real systematic change.

We also want to announce that we're piloting a new program where chapter members can submit statements on chapter business which will be published on the chapter’s public website. Our chapter membership take votes by email ballot—such emails will include a link to these statements. This will ensure we conform to our bylaws which require that members have access to a public platform for remote discussion on chapter business. From now on, text of the proposal under consideration, and associated public statements, will be available alongside ballots. Please email statements in .doc format to [email protected] by 11:59pm on Monday, 6/15 to have them included in the email to members.
In Solidarity,
Metro DC DSA
