That’s why I stood alongside local education leaders to speak out and push back against these cruel, reckless cuts.

In Philadelphia alone, more than 1,300 AmeriCorps members served last year — in classrooms, afterschool programs, and neighborhood nonprofits. That includes 125 Teach for America teachers reaching more than 7,700 students in North and West Philly, and City Year mentors supporting over 7,000 students across 12 local schools.
These aren’t just numbers — they’re our neighbors showing up every day for our kids: tutoring, mentoring, and helping students thrive in some of the most under-resourced neighborhoods in our city.
Now, they’re being told their service doesn’t matter. That the students they’ve supported — kids who were finally gaining ground — will now be left behind.
Let me be clear: AmeriCorps works.
Last year, Pennsylvania received nearly $39 million in AmeriCorps funding — generating over $17 in economic value for every $1 invested. It’s a program with a proven track record and bipartisan support for good reason.
I’ll keep fighting in Washington to protect programs that strengthen our communities and change lives — especially this one.
Sincerely,

Brendan F. Boyle
