Dear Neighbor,

The House is set to adjourn in just four days, with much work remaining on omnibus finance bills that will shape our state’s next two-year budget.

Our work may spill past the deadline after half the House boycotted the first 23 days of this session. The good news is bipartisan agreement has been reached on the framework of the next budget so we should be able to make good progress by working through the weekend.

Spending totals (known as “targets”) for each budget area now have been issued and, as part of a conference committee working on the omnibus ag bill, we are working to put the details in place so it can be presented for votes on final passage. Other budget bills are undergoing the same process.

Look for more details on ag and other budget bills as they are put into finished form. For now, we can say the overall budget agreement includes the largest cut to government in state history. This puts us on a more sustainable path after the state budget was increased by 40 percent under one-party control during the last biennium. There also are zero tax increases on Minnesota families in this agreement, which is important after a $10 billion increase was enacted under the former trifecta.

I will share more budget details after things come together. There should be a lot of House Republican victories to discuss at that point.
