After working all through the night, we officially wrapped up the 2025 Iowa Legislative Session at 6 am this morning – so please forgive any errors in this email.
As we look back at the last 5 months, this was yet another session marked by division, special interest giveaways, and partisanship.
Rather than working for everyday Iowans, we saw Republicans taking away civil rights, implementing work requirements for Medicaid, underfunding our public schools, and focusing more on culture wars than on the cost of living.
Senate Democrats offered countless alternatives that would have actually helped folks like you get ahead. We proposed better funding for our public schools, an expansive paid family leave program, an affordable housing legislation package, good childcare bills, and countless other pieces of legislation that would have actually lowered costs and improved the lives of Iowans.
But Republicans didn’t even give any of these bills an initial subcommittee meeting.
