LEGISLATIVE UPDATE:
The Legislature is still working through the budget process. There are significant differences between the House and the Senate. They seem to be at an impasse and negotiations have slowed down. The end of the fiscal year is June 30, and the hope is that an agreement on the budget is reached by then. If not, there is a risk of a state shutdown. Speaker Perez held session on Tuesday 5/13/2025 where the house voted to extend session until June 30th (from the current date of June 6th). The Senate has not been called in to do the same.
· President Ben Albritton on 5/12/2025:
“The Speaker and I are making progress towards joint allocations to begin the budget conference…As I told the senators on Friday, I am committed to continuing to work towards a final budget and tax relief package the House, Senate, and Governor can support.”
· Speaker Danny Perez on 5/13/2025:
“The House did not propose a sales tax cut because we have a sales tax problem. We have a spending problem. We proposed a sales tax cut because the state’s budget has grown at an exponential rate, and the sales tax is a primary driver of that growth. But the sales tax cut was a means not an end. We will embrace any and all ideas that curb the state budget. We must stop leveraging Florida’s future needs by overspending on today’s wants.”
RPOF UPDATE:
New Coalitions have been formed to target different demographics around the State. I hope that everyone in our community joins (at least) one to strengthen Palm Beach County’s presence locally and state-wide.
This announcement was delivered by RPOF leadership…
“Under the leadership of President Trump and Governor DeSantis, Florida has emerged as a beacon of conservative values and effective governance. President Trump has consistently highlighted Florida's pivotal role in shaping national policies, appointing key Floridians to top federal positions. Governor DeSantis has echoed this sentiment, emphasizing Florida's proactive stance on issues like immigration enforcement and economic growth among others. Together, they have positioned Florida as a model for the nation, demonstrating how strong, conservative leadership can drive progress and prosperity. This leadership is reflected in the diverse coalitions developed within the state, including those focused on agriculture, education, faith, first responders, Hispanic communities, moms, veterans, Jewish, Pro Life, and the First Amendment. These coalitions embody the strength and unity that Florida brings to the national stage, showcasing the power of community and shared values.”
