At the NAACP’s 65th annual Human Rights Banquet in Washington last week, Speaker McClinton delivered more than just a keynote speech – she issued a challenge:To stay determined, speak up, and fight for justice, no matter how hard it gets.
Joanna grew up in southwest Philly, raised by a single mom who came from segregated North Carolina. She’s seen firsthand how far we’ve come, and what’s at stake if we let extremists drag us backward.
The Speaker reminded attendees that “we are now in this age where every part of the red, white, and blue of our beautiful flag and the fabric of our democracy lies in the balance of our decisions.”
Joanna McClinton serves as the Speaker of the Pennsylvania State House, while proudly serving the 191st district.
Joanna has made important strides to enact progress in the Pennsylvania Legislature. From working to protect the rights of those accused in our criminal justice system to spearheading the fight to expand our voting rights, she has proven that she will always prioritize the prosperity of Pennsylvanians over the promise of power.
