For 75 years, the National Council on Aging (NCOA) has been a leader in helping older adults age with health, independence, and economic well-being.

As a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, we’ve worked proudly with partners of all stripes to build strong support systems that enable all older Americans to thrive. Over the decades, we’ve seen the good that happens when the nation invests in older adults—and what goes wrong when it doesn’t.

There’s no other way to say it, John . We’re worried. The latest federal budget proposal includes devastating cuts to the very programs millions of older adults rely on including:

* Slashing the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services budget by one-third, threatening the local services older adults count on.
* Eliminating support for elder abuse prevention and health care oversight.
* Defunding the Social Services Block Grant, a key source for Meals on Wheels in 37 states.
* Wiping out all funding for chronic disease management and falls prevention programs.

And that’s in addition to what you’ve heard about well-known programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.
