In Memoriam: Afton Tuveson

Our dear friend and fierce democracy warrior, Afton Tuveson, passed on May 5th after a brief illness. To us she was a partner in the fight for democracy. She was first and foremost though a shining performer and television personality with a relentless smile and a BIG personality. Always ready to help and a loyal friend, Afton served on the DCC, the Fundraising and Events Committee and helped countless local Democrats in their election campaigns. She collected lifelong friends like a magnet and in the last few months she had a never ending love parade of friends stopping in. Afton loved gardening (she has a photo of a 10 foot tall foxglove to prove it!) and needlepoint. We will miss our shining star forever.

Heidi Hall, Candidate for Congressional District 3

Heidi Hall has spent her three-decade public service career working with others to solve problems, protect our land and water, improve health, and build opportunities for others, all while raising two boys primarily as a single mom.

Shaped by the civil rights and social justice movements she grew up around, Heidi developed an interest in public service and environmental advocacy. She worked her way through college and earned two graduate degrees before working for the Environmental Protection Agency, implementing solutions to stop toxic waste dumping and protect our water and public health. Heidi then worked for the California Department of Water Resources to protect our rivers and lakes and refurbish our groundwater supply.

Frustrated with the lack of support for workers and small businesses in Grass Valley and beyond and a refusal of her county supervisor to tackle homelessness, Heidi flipped her seat from red to blue, defeating a conservative opponent by over 10 points. She is now the Chair of the Nevada County Board of Supervisors and has worked with members of both parties to solve problems on homelessness and housing, expand broadband access, reduce crime and rogue cannabis growers, and strengthen fire protection.

Mike Masuda, Candidate for Congressional District 5

Candidate for CA-5 Congressional race for 2026 midterms. Amador County to Washington DC to Stanislaus County transplant (soon!), fmr Foreign Affairs Officer, U.S. State Dept - fmr AAAS STPF - fmr Electrical Engineer at JHU/APL.

EDC Dem Survey Results: Who Inspires You?

In prior newsletters, we asked EDC Dems to identify which leaders inspired them to take action in the current political environment. Based on those responses, we subsequently asked members to rank those leaders from least to most inspiring.

Above are the results from our survey in April. Where did your top pick land on the collective list?
