As a global human rights organization and convener of local, national, and global coalitions, Equality Now helps reform discriminatory family laws that do not ensure equality between husbands and wives, or brothers and sisters, or deny mothers and sisters rights in favor of male relatives.

The World Bank recently reported that since the 1970’s, 600 million women have gained access to economic opportunities because of reformed or repealed sex-discriminatory family laws. Studies also show that equality in the family can lead to higher educational attainment and economic participation, better health, stronger political empowerment for women and girls, and better outcomes for all children in the family. In short, equality in the family has a powerful ripple effect, not only creating a better world for women and girls, but for everyone.
