John,

Donald Trump was recently asked on Meet the Press whether he needed to
uphold the Constitution as President of the United States.

His answer may surprise you — honestly, it may not — but here’s what he
said:

“I don’t know.”

John, the
President of the United States said that he does not know whether it’s his
duty to uphold the Constitution.

We all know that Trump holds very little regard for the rule of law — but
his answer was shocking considering that just a few months ago, he took
his oath of office and swore to preserve, protect, and defend the
Constitution. For the second time.

Clearly, his oath of office means very little to him.

At every turn, Donald Trump has shown a blatant disregard for the rule of
law, the Constitution, our national security, and the needs of the
American people.

He’s leading the most corrupt administration imaginable. He’s weaponizing
the Department of Justice and attacking judges for not giving him the
green light to have unchecked power. And he’s surrounded himself with
extremist loyalists who are helping him subvert the rule of law, like FBI
Director Kash Patel and Attorney General Pam Bondi.

Trump is undermining our Constitution, eroding our institutions,
threatening our democratic way of life, and attacking our most basic
rights like due process.

In that very same interview, Trump was asked whether he would uphold the
Fifth Amendment, which guarantees that no person shall be deprived of
life, liberty, or property without due process of the law.

He not only refused to say that he would protect the Fifth Amendment but
also complained that the right to due process would cause delays in the
courts and make it harder for him to deport people without a court
hearing.

Yes, people have a right to appear before they’re deported to a maximum
security prison in El Salvador so the courts can determine whether the
person can be legally deported or if the government even has the right
person. None of which is a given with this administration.

It might be cumbersome, but it’s necessary. The Constitution wasn’t
written to maximize deportations,
John. It was written to
maximize our freedom.

Without checks and balances and due process, what we’d have is a
dictatorship, not a government of the people, by the people, and for the
people.

[ [link removed] ]Donald Trump may not know that it’s his job to uphold the Constitution
and defend due process, but I do. That’s why I’m going to continue
fighting back against him to protect our democracy and the rule of law. If
