Policymakers across the country have questions about their workforce that they need data to answer. But right now, leaders are lacking the complete set of information they need to make decisions that grow their state’s economy and support workers in securing family-sustaining careers.

Our latest resource ([link removed]) outlines how enhanced unemployment insurance (UI) wage data can equip state leaders with a fuller picture of their workforce. When securely combined with K–12 and postsecondary data, enhanced UI wage data has the potential to bridge the information gap between education and workforce, helping to answer questions like:
* What education and workforce pathways are available to students after high school?
* Are education and training programs resulting in positive outcomes for students and helping them navigate into high-paying and in-demand jobs?
* Are the most popular noncredit programs or credentials of value aligned with state workforce needs? How can policymakers better align programmatic and resource decisions with employer needs?
* What is the landscape of local and regional workforces, and what jobs are in demand?

By ensuring that statewide longitudinal data systems include the most robust workforce data available, leaders will be able to gather and act on insights to improve their education-to-workforce pipelines. This resource explores examples of states leading the way on enhanced UI wage data, shares challenges and considerations, and recommends actions that state and federal leaders can take to drive UI wage data enhancements.
