Politico ([link removed]) (5/14/25) reports: "More than a dozen House Republicans are urging party leaders to undo key rollbacks of Democrats’ clean energy credits that the Ways and Means Committee pushed through Wednesday as part of the party’s mega reconciliation bill. Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-Va.) and 12 other moderate Republicans, in a statement shared exclusively with POLITICO, warned that abruptly cutting off Inflation Reduction Act tax credits, imposing onerous restrictions and changing provisions that help fund projects more quickly could stifle investments in new energy technologies. “We must ensure certainty for current and future energy investments to meet the nation’s growing power demand and protect our constituents from higher energy costs,” Kiggans said in the statement with Reps. Andrew Garbarino (R-N.Y.), Mark Amodei (R-Nev.), Juan Ciscomani (R-Ariz.),
Dave Joyce (R-Ohio), Nick LaLota (R-N.Y.), Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.), Dan Newhouse (R-Wash.), David Valadao (R-Calif.), Gabe Evans (R-Colo.), Rob Bresnahan (R-Pa.), Don Bacon (R-Neb.) and Young Kim (R-Calif.)."

If the Senate wants to preserve even a moderate amount of choice in the auto market they must vote to revoke the California waiver.

(5/15/25) reports: "Only the U.S. Senate, can prevent unelected bureaucrats in Washington D.C. and climate activists in California from setting a nationwide electric vehicle (EV) mandate that will raise consumer costs and limit consumer choice...If Thune decides to press ahead, he will need to act in defiance of the General Accountability Office (GAO) and the Senate parliamentarian. Tom Pyle, president of the Institute for Energy Research (IER), would like to see Thune do exactly that since the GAO and the parliamentarian have issued statements in opposition to using the CRA. Pyle told Restoration News in an interview that he has confidence Thune, and his Senate colleagues, will finish the job the House started. Pyle sees an effort at work on the part of "unelected bureaucrats' and Senate Democrats to use the waiver for the purpose of imposing a nationwide EV mandate that would also result in a ban on gas-powered cars. The statements from GAO and the parliamentarian should not be an
obstacle to regulatory reform, Pyle argues, since they ignore the 'clear language' of the CRA...'The clock is ticking, and the Senate will need to bring the House resolution to the floor probably later this month,' Pyle said. 'I fully expect majority leader Thune and the senate leadership to get this bill to President Trump and end California’s heavy-handed, rough shod, go it alone approach.'...If for some reason Thune declines to move forward with the CRA, Pyle envisions a scenario where most, and perhaps all, Americans will not be able to purchase a new gas-powered car by 2035."

Governor Gavin has not moderated. He still wants sky high gasoline prices to pay for his fantasy in the Valley.

(5/15/25) reports: "Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday proposed a 15-year extension of California’s signature cap-and-trade system for greenhouse gases — a cornerstone of the state’s climate policies and a reliable revenue generator. Newsom’s (D) long-awaited proposal, reported first by POLITICO, would reauthorize the state’s quarterly auction of emissions permits and change the way some of the proceeds are spent. It comes months after Newsom first indicated his plans to do so and just weeks after President Donald Trump attacked the state’s program in an April executive order. Newsom’s plan would also address another California initiative under attack from the Trump administration. Specifically, it would convert the proportion of revenue that funds the state’s hot-button high-speed rail project from a 25 percent carve-out to a guaranteed minimum funding level of $1 billion annually."

With "moderates" like this calling the shots in Ottawa, maybe it is time for Alberta to switch teams.
