Thank you to everyone who applied for SAAF funding at the end of last year. We have now been in touch with all applicants. 32 organisations have been selected to submit a full proposal to SAAF and we have just hosted induction workshops to support them to develop their ideas alongside other global abortion advocates.

Workshops were delivered in English, French and Spanish and the new grantee partners will officially begin their SAAF grants in July this year when we will share more information about the exciting work they are proposing.

"The workshop provided an invaluable learning opportunity and networking opportunity. Lessons learned will enhance my institutional fundraising and management capabilities beyond the SAAF funding."

SAAF grantee partner spotlight: K-PEN
Young people in Kenya
K-PEN school health campaign

Noting that the highest rates of unsafe abortions were present in Migori County, where they work, Kenya Poverty Elimination Network (K-PEN) has been receiving funding from SAAF to increase access to safe abortion care and information there since 2022.

With a particular focus on young women, who are one of the groups most affected by lack of access to safe abortion, K-PEN has set about raising awareness about the support that is available. They have set up referral networks with existing hotlines and safe abortion providers, and also train up traditional birth attendants and community health promoters to ensure they have the correct information to support women and girls in their communities.

Since starting work with SAAF, they have now supported over 5000 people with abortion options.

SAAF is hosted by IPPF. If you wish to report anything which concerns you about our work, or the work of our grantee partners (such as abuse, fraud, malpractice) please consider using the confidential external incident reporting service IPPF SafeReport.
