Dear Friends and Supporters,

I’m honored to write to you for the first time as Executive Director of the World Justice Project (WJP). After many years leading WJP’s research agenda, I’m proud to step into this new role, lead a talented and dedicated team, and continue advancing our mission to strengthen the rule of law around the world.

This mission is personal to me. I’ve experienced the consequences of living in places where the rule of law is weak—where institutions are distant and justice systems unresponsive. But I’ve also seen the power of local leaders, data-driven reform, and global collaboration to bring about meaningful change. That’s why I believe so strongly in WJP’s approach: generating rigorous, people-centered data to inform policy; supporting locally led efforts to improve justice systems; and raising awareness of the rule of law as a cornerstone of opportunity and well-being.

Today, the challenges are immense—from democratic backsliding and widespread gaps in access to justice, to global crises and a shrinking space for international cooperation. But these obstacles only make our work more urgent. We must stay focused, be strategic, and work together to make a difference.

Thank you for being part of this global effort. Your engagement fuels our impact, and I look forward to working with you in the months ahead.

Warmly,

The rule of law is in crisis—78% of countries have seen declines since 2016. Weakening accountability, shrinking civic space, and rising authoritarianism threaten justice and human rights worldwide.

Across the globe, we’re working alongside governments, legal professionals, and civil society to uphold and advance the rule of law.

Zambia & Malawi: Strengthening Accountability through Collaboration
* In  Zambia, WJP convened senior officials from the judiciary, law enforcement, and anti-corruption agencies to enhance legal aid services and improve institutional coordination.

* In  Malawi, we co-hosted workshops with the Ministry of Justice and the Chandler Foundation to promote data-driven judicial reforms and anti-corruption strategies. Participants included the Ministry of Justice and Office of the President and Cabinet, as well as oversight, enforcement, and other justice institutions.

These efforts are helping build stronger, more accountable and responsive legal systems across the region.

Europe: Mobilizing the Private Sector for Rule of Law

In Brussels, WJP brought together business leaders ([link removed]) to explore their role in strengthening the rule of law. Using insights from the World Justice Project EUROVOICES ([link removed]) project, which examines the rule of law at the subnational level in the European Union, participants identified strategies to:
* Tackle corruption
* Counter misinformation
* Promote environmental governance

This marks a crucial step toward aligning business practices with integrity and adherence to the rule of law.

WJP also showcased WJP EUROVOICES at a dinner with high level members of civil society, and at a closed-door presentation to European Commission staff.

Asia Pacific: Advancing Justice through Dialogue
* In Thailand, WJP deepened its collaboration with the Ministry of Justice, the Thailand Institute of Justice, and the National Rule of Law Committee, focusing on leveraging data for government-led justice reforms. Our partnership with the National Human Rights Commission also explored methods for measuring and benchmarking human rights outcomes. At the Thailand Rule of Law Fair 2025 ([link removed]) , WJP partnered with the OECD, UNDP, and local organizations to host more than 30 interactive sessions aimed at promoting the rule of law and addressing transparency, justice system reform, and institutional accountability.
* In South Korea, WJP engaged in constructive conversations with the Supreme Court, the Department of Justice, the Korean Legal Aid Corporation, and the National Human Rights Commission, which focused on strengthening collaboration on the rule of law, technology, judicial independence, and human rights.
* In the Philippines, WJP convened the Asia Pacific Regional Stakeholder Meeting on Environmental Rule of Law, bringing together policymakers, academics, and civil society to address critical challenges and explore enforcement strategies. The convening was supported by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. Additionally, WJP held productive discussions with the Department of Justice regarding data-driven approaches to enhance justice policy in late 2025.

Mexico: Expanding Access to Justice in Indigenous Communities

In Mexico, we've partnered with local communities and organizations to expand access to justice through peace and dialogue centers ([link removed]) . Supported by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives, the centers provide accessible legal services to resolve disputes and protect community rights. In addition, WJP is equipping local advocates with legal resources to combat illegal logging ([link removed]) , supporting both environmental protection and community resilience.
