Hi all,
There's no reason to sugarcoat the current moment: things are really bad. The Trump administration is continuing to undermine free speech and ignore basic democratic rights. They're trying to cut billions from Medicaid and food benefits in order to pay for massive giveaways to the richest, most corrupt people in America. And the people of Gaza are facing famine as Israel's genocide continues, with the active support of leaders in both US political parties.
And yet even in the darkness there are reminders that resistance matters. In part because of pushback and organizing, the Trump administration backtracked on revoking student visas and has released students like Mohsen Mahdawi and R?meysa ?zt?rk.
Closer to home, a woman in Tucson who had just given birth and who was facing immediate deportation was released after significant organizing and solidarity from the Tucson community. When we organize, come together, and fight back, we can make a difference.
Whether you're brand-new, already involved, or getting involved again after some time away, we'd love to see you this week.
Join us tomorrow (Thursday) as we attend the Nakba Day vigil in solidarity with the people of Palestine (6:30 pm at Civic Space Park in Phoenix). Details here.
And then join us on Saturday for our monthly chapter meeting! It'll be from 1-3 pm at UNITE HERE Local 11 (1021 South 7th Ave Phoenix, AZ 85007). Note the new location for this month only! RSVP here.
Can't make it to any of these? Check out our calendar -- we have things happening multiple times a week, from mutual aid to political education to socials to canvassing, and we'd love to have you join us.
We'll see you out there --
In solidarity,
Phoenix DSA
