SIGN NOW: Congress must BLOCK Trump’s $400 million bribe from Qatar!
Dear MoveOn member,
President Trump is intending to accept a $400 million luxury jet from the government of Qatar—and keep it for himself.1 Instead of treating this like the corruption it is, Attorney General Pam Bondi, fresh off of a $115,000-per-month lobbying job for Qatar, is rubber-stamping this clear conflict of interest.2
That's right: Trump wants to accept by far the most valuable gift in presidential history from a foreign government, and Attorney General Bondi, who is supposed to impartially enforce our laws, is giving him the all-clear.
This isn't an innocent gift; it's a bribe from a country that wants favorable treatment. Under the Constitution's Emoluments Clause and federal law, presidents cannot accept gifts from foreign governments unless Congress explicitly approves them by passing a law.3 Without that consent, Trump's accepting this gift is a violation of federal law and the Constitution.
But this is par for the course for Trump—while working people are struggling to put food on the table, Trump is securing a $400 million luxury plane for himself. We have to push back against this egregious corruption.
Will you sign the petition to hold this administration accountable and demand that members of Congress REJECT Trump’s shady plane deal from Qatar?
Two weeks ago, news broke that Trump is building a $5.5 billion golf club in Qatar.4 Now, Qatar is offering Trump a $400 million jet to use as Air Force One and then keep for personal use after his term is over. Trump is not working for the people—he's cashing in.
Even Republicans are sounding the alarm about this bad deal. “I don’t think it looks good or smells good,” said Senator Rand Paul.5
Trump is continuing to test the limits of what he can get away with—from launching his own cryptocurrency to his family building a private membership club in D.C. and launching billion-dollar business deals abroad.6 Qatar is a glaring example of what Trump has been doing from Day 1: abusing his position of power to profit off of the American people.
This isn't just shady. It's a blatant, flying, $400 million violation of our Constitution. Will you sign the petition?
We’re just scraping the surface. Just weeks into his second term, Trump issued an executive order suspending the enforcement of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which makes it illegal for U.S. companies to bribe foreign officials. And Attorney General Bondi limited enforcement of a law requiring lobbyists to disclose their ties with foreign governments.7 We don’t know how deep this administration’s corruption and deceit extend—but we’re prepared to follow the money and find out.
Trump and his team are counting on the chaos and noise to distract us, to add this to the list of outrageous things he says and does every day. We have to make sure this administration knows that we will fight its self-enrichment and corruption every step of the way.
Click here to sign the petition and urge your members of Congress to use their authority to block Trump from accepting this foreign bribe!
Thanks for all you do.
