John,
Right now, the Trump administration is using threats and intimidation
tactics to pressure some of the biggest and most prestigious law firms in
the country to bend the knee — and in some cases, it’s working.
Already, nine of the country’s Big Law firms have pledged nearly $1
billion in pro-bono work to support far-right causes and allies, and many
of them have also agreed to dismantle diversity, equity, and inclusion
programs at their firms — all to avoid punishment by the Trump
administration.
But it’s not too late for these firms to reverse course, stand on the
right side of history, and end their deals with Trump — which is exactly
what Demand Justice is calling on them to do through our Big Law Cowards
campaign.

bending the knee and fight for our democracy!

Demand Justice has been actively tracking the law firms folding to Trump.
Not every law firm has given in, but far too many have — and what comes
next could be even worse.
Big Law’s cowardice has consequences: capitulating to a wannabe dictator
like Trump will chill pro bono work, weaken legal defense for the
vulnerable, and send a signal to lawyers everywhere: don’t stand up to the
powerful.
While the nine firms have mostly claimed they will simply be providing
typical pro-bono services, Trump has repeatedly suggested that he expects
the firms to serve his administration’s interests – and reports have
emerged that the White House may even try to call on the firms to
represent Trump and his allies personally.
When legal elites bow down and lend their names and reputation to
authoritarian actors, they’re not neutral. They’re complicit.

petition to hold Big Law accountable and demand they stand up to Trump for
the sake of our democracy →
