When I was growing up, there were times we needed help.

Things were difficult for a long time after my mom became addicted to opioids. Money was tight and my family struggled to put food on the table. That’s when we reached out for support and were enrolled in SNAP. We no longer had to worry about skipping breakfast to pay for dinner, or going hungry while trying to learn at school.

I know that story may sound uncommon for a member of Congress. But for the 41 million Americans who rely on SNAP today to put food on the table and help their children grow up healthy, my story probably sounds pretty familiar. Because most of us have been just one illness, one job loss, or one emergency away from having everything change.

In those times of need, we should be there for each other.

But unfortunately, Republicans are trying to rip food away from hungry kids, seniors, and families — nearly 600,000 Coloradans — in order to pay for more tax giveaways for the wealthiest people in the history of the world.

I don’t know where my family would be without having support like this when we needed it most. And I’m heartbroken to think about the kids growing up like me who will be left behind if the Republicans succeed — and that’s why I’m asking for your help.

Like millions of Americans, I relied on SNAP when I needed it most — and I will never stop fighting to protect it. If you believe no family should go hungry in America, chip in now and stand with me in this fight.
