This week, I have information about current legislation moving through the Pennsylvania House, construction happening in our district, upcoming events and more!

As always, I hope you find the information below useful.

Legislative Recap: Voting Rights Protection Act

I was proud to co-sponsor and vote yes on Speaker McClinton’s Voting Rights Protection Act (H.B. 1396), which passed in the PA House yesterday, 102-101.

Our elections are already some of the most secure in the world, and this bill reinforces those protections by making early in-person voting available 11 days before an election, easier guidelines for mail-in and absentee voting, the transition to electronic poll books by 2027, convenient ballot drop boxes and more general requirements around safety, integrity and security.

Democracies work when everyone is able to vote, and this bill improves our system by ensuring our elections in Pennsylvania are accessible and free of any unnecessary obstacles for voters.

Legislative Recap: Cannabis Health & Safety Act

Last week, I voted yes on the Cannabis Health & Safety Act, which paves the way for the legalization of adult-use cannabis in Pennsylvania. Cannabis already exists in our state in an unregulated manner, and if we’re going to introduce it into our Commonwealth legally, it’s our duty to ensure it’s done responsibly.

That means we should focus on coinciding with existing laws around regulation for our youth, developing a plan that eliminates any illegal dispensaries that arise and restricting the influx of misleading and predatory advertising. I’m on board with this legislation because it accomplishes just that.

Aerospace Caucus

As a retired Air Force Colonel, I was excited to help launch the Aerospace Caucus during the second annual Aerospace Day in Harrisburg last week. Aerospace is a valuable industry that brings countless opportunities to our Commonwealth and has the potential for even greater expansion.

From its economic value to job creation, partnerships with our education systems and innovation side, I look forward to serving as one of the co-chairs of this newly formed caucus alongside Lt. Governor Austin Davis, Senators Marty Flynn and Tracy Pennycuick and State Representative Zach Mako.
