Dear John,
Every day since Donald Trump was sworn in, the team here at Inequality Media Civic Action and I have been calling out the Trump administration for standing on the side of the rich and powerful against everyday people — and it’s working.
So now Trump and his stooges are attacking me.
Just two days ago, RFK Jr. joined Trump at a White House press conference and took the opportunity to condemn me by name.
“There’s writers like Elizabeth Warren or Robert Reich who are saying that President Trump is on the side of the oligarchs,” he said. “There has never been a president more willing to stand up to the oligarchs than President Donald Trump.”
Donald Trump standing up to the oligarchs!? Give me a break.
Here’s the truth: They’re coming after me because Inequality Media Civic Action is doing such an effective job alerting the American people to Trump’s rampant corruption, and they want to shut us up. It won’t work, but as a grassroots-funded organization, we rely on your donations to power everything we do.
If you’re with us, please make a donation to help get the truth out and stop Donald Trump’s giveaways to the ultra-rich.
When I saw what RFK Jr. said about Trump standing up to oligarchs, my first thought was “Is this a joke?”
The richest men on the planet — including Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg — lined up at Trump’s inauguration and opened their wallets to be there. RFK Jr. should know. He was there too!
After that, Trump put Elon Musk in charge of gutting huge swaths of the federal government responsible for helping everyday people as well as the federal watchdogs responsible for rooting out corruption. At the same time, Trump himself is using the office of the presidency to directly enrich himself and his family through his cryptocurrency schemes, while he simultaneously works to deregulate the crypto industry.
Then on Sunday we learned that he wants to accept a $400 million plane from the government of Qatar. Hello?! This is exactly the kind of foreign bribe that the constitution was meant to prevent.
Meanwhile, Trump is pushing Republicans in Congress to cut taxes that will disproportionately benefit the rich, while cutting programs like Medicaid that millions of people rely on. It’s reverse Robin Hood.
Trump isn’t even trying to “make America healthy again,” which is allegedly what RFK Jr really cares about. He’s too busy gutting food safety and the environmental laws that keep our air and water clean — all to the benefit of Trump’s wealthy and corporate backers.
It may not be clear to RFK Jr., but it is becoming clear to the American public: Trump’s administration is by and for the oligarchy. Inequality Media Civic Action is using our massive reach across social media to help turn the tide of public opinion against Trump. In fact, our engagement across all platforms has TRIPLED since the start of the year, and our latest videos are moving even Trump voters by as much as 5 points.
Now we need to ramp it up even more and get our most effective videos in front of millions more Americans through both paid ads and organic sharing.
That’s why I’m asking you today: Will you make a donation to help educate the public and reach the voters we need to help stop Trump’s corruption and giveaways to the ultra-wealthy?
Thank you,
Robert Reich
