Hi, it’s Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner.

There’s been talk that Donald Trump is considering pardoning Derek Chauvin, the police officer who killed George Floyd in 2020.

Let me be clear: He cannot do that. Let me explain:

There is a state court conviction of Chauvin that Trump cannot touch. And it’s going to keep him in jail for a quarter century. Yes, there’s a federal conviction as well. But the president can’t touch the state conviction.

What Trump is trying to do is simple, and dangerous: He’s trying to get people in the cities to engage in unrest so they can bring in the military and roll tanks through our streets. They want to pick a fight with the American people.

Everybody needs to get this straight:

→ When I convict somebody, Donald Trump cannot pardon that person.

→ When they convicted Derek Chauvin in Minnesota State Court, Donald Trump cannot pardon him.

→ When Donald Trump was convicted of 34 felonies in New York state court, he could not pardon himself.

So the bottom line is simple: Don’t go for Trump’s bait.

I sure as hell won’t. And I’ve already sent a message to Trump loud and clear: If you mess with Philadelphia, well, you can F—around and find out.

But with just five days to go in my campaign for reelection as Philadelphia DA, I need you to stand up to Trump with me. Can you pitch in $20 or more to support my campaign?
