Take Action Now: Congress Moves to Defund Planned Parenthood

Dear John,

Congressional Republicans have included a powerful provision in their Budget Reconciliation Act that would bar Planned Parenthood from receiving Medicaid funding—its largest source of revenue. This bold move could strip Planned Parenthood of an estimated $390 to $420 million annually.

This is a game-changer.

Women do not need Planned Parenthood to receive comprehensive reproductive health care. More than 1,300 community health centers nationwide operate over 15,000 service sites, offering full-spectrum care. By contrast, Planned Parenthood runs only around 600 clinics. Cutting off Medicaid funds from Planned Parenthood will not deprive any woman of access to health care—it will simply redirect resources to providers that truly serve women’s health.

No woman will be deprived of health care by cutting off Medicaid funds for PP.

The truth is, Planned Parenthood focuses almost exclusively on abortion—not health care. According to the Charlotte Lozier Institute:

In 2020–2021, 97.2% of Planned Parenthood’s pregnancy resolution services were abortions. Prenatal services, miscarriage care, and adoption referrals accounted for just 1.6%, 0.7%, and 0.5%, respectively.

That year, Planned Parenthood performed 208 abortions for every one adoption referral. Over the last decade, the average has remained at roughly 130 abortions per adoption referral.
