Politics in a Nutshell
House Republicans unveil Medicaid cuts that Democrats warn will leave millions without care [[link removed]]
House Republicans, despite resistance from several of their own, still aim to cut $880 billion from Medicaid. The voices of their constituents have failed to sway them, the voices of their colleagues have failed to sway them, they seem dead set on stripping insurance away from millions of Americans regardless of the consequences. All for pay for Trump’s tax cuts, money to millionaires and billionaires that should be used to pay for peoples’ medicine and treatments.
Europe and US briefly upped the pressure on Russia over Ukraine. Trump upended that | CNN [[link removed]]
Putin has Trump on a leash, and he knows just when to make the dog bark. In response to a united demand between the U.S., Europe, and Ukraine, that Russia agree to Trump’s proposed 30-day ceasefire, Putin delayed yet again by proposing ‘peace’ talks in Istanbul. Trump fell for the trick once more, and did nothing even as Russia bombed Ukraine with drones the night the ceasefire was supposed to start. Putin is the enemy of peace, and clearly has no intention of stopping his invasion. The choice now is to help Ukraine, or watch as they die.
US and China reach deal to roll back most tariffs for 90 days | AP News [[link removed]]
Trump’s tariff war has reached another lull in the storm. Tariffs between China and the U.S. have been temporarily lowered, but still remain extremely high. U.S. tariffs on China will now be at 30%, with Chinese tariffs on the U.S. at 10%. This will still result in huge economic pains in Iowa, with farmers unable to export their crops and inflation carrying prices up even further. Until Trump gives up on this disastrous economic agenda, America will continue to pay the price.
Representatives on the Record
Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks (202) 225-6576
Does Rep. Miller-Meeks support the plan to cut Medicaid? Is she aiming for 880 billion slashed, or something less? What about the Iowa families that rely on it for their health insurance? How many small-town Iowa hospitals will be closed due to Medicaid cuts? What is she doing to make sure her own constituents aren’t hurt by this reckless plan?

Representative Randy Feenstra (712) 224-4692

Note From the Chair
Hey folks! Rita Hart here.
The fight to protect Medicaid continues. The small group of Republicans that wanted to make the proposed Medicaid cuts less severe, (Notice: None of these folks were Iowa representatives), have failed in convincing their colleagues of the same. They still aim to gut 880 billion from the program, something that would devastate thousands of Iowa families.
Representatives Nunn, Hinson, Miller-Meeks, and Feenstra have proven time and time again that they stand with the rich and wealthy, not ordinary Iowan citizens. They’re going to take healthcare from those that need it, and give that money to the millionaires and billionaires that helped them get elected.
If you want to join your fellow Iowans in their fight for change, you can sign up to volunteer with the Iowa Democratic Party by clicking here [[link removed]] , or check out our events calendar by clicking here [[link removed]] .
To make the change we all want to see, and to resist our own representatives’ dubious aims, we need to work together. I appreciate your continued involvement and support of the Iowa Democratic Party.
Our work continues,
Sincerely,
Rita Hart
