In Ukraine, the ongoing war is taking an immense toll on people’s mental health. In response to our patients’ needs, MSF launched an early rehabilitation project at Cherkasy Hospital in central Ukraine, integrating physiotherapy, psychological support, and nursing care to address the complex needs of war-wounded patients. Nurses and psychologists at MSF hospitals aim to lessen the lasting mental impact of war injuries by helping patients stabilize their emotional state to reduce pain and support recovery.

After more than 13 years of war, displacement, and humanitarian crises, people in northwest Syria are experiencing a widespread mental health emergency. In 2024, MSF teams reached more than 12,000 people with consultations, and more than 69,000 patients attended mental health group sessions. In early 2025, MSF teams started treating patients in formerly Assad-held regions for the first time in nearly a decade. Through mobile clinics, we are providing basic health care and mental health support to patients who haven’t had access to essential services.

Even after physical injuries have been treated, people who have lived through violence, natural disasters, or other trauma often have hidden psychological wounds. That’s why MSF teams stay and deliver mental health services to help people cope and recover.
Over the years, your support has powered the expansion of our mental health services, enabling MSF to meet the complex needs of our patients. Discover more about how MSF is responding to mental health needs around the world.
