Mother’s Day is a special time to celebrate and honor the incredible strength and love of mothers everywhere. But for a wish mom like Adrienne, who spends days and nights standing vigil by her son’s bedside, this day can be bittersweet. And you can make all the difference.

Bryce was born with sickle cell disease. His childhood was marked by chronic pain and frequent infections, making simple activities like walking and playing outside extremely challenging and often impossible.

Despite these challenges, Bryce has always fought hard and pushed through, no matter what. Bryce kept his same sweet disposition even during the most difficult challenges related to sickle cell disease. He never gave up. And neither did his mom Adrienne.

Adrienne was right there next to Bryce during every part of his medical journey.  

Once Bryce received a bone marrow transplant, he could finally enjoy activities like swimming and playing basketball without the fear of being hospitalized. But to be safe, he still had to be homeschooled for another two years. And he was still very restricted in terms of interactions with his peers. Even with the support of his family, it became very lonely and depressing for him.

At the end of summer, Bryce found out he would receive a wish, and he knew exactly what he wanted: a puppy! One sunny day, Bryce’s parents and Make-A-Wish^® supporters like you surprised him with his new toy poodle puppy, Bear. When Bryce laid eyes on Bear, his parents saw him fully smile for the first time in a long time. And just like that, Bryce’s world changed again — and so did Adrienne’s.
