John,

We have been raising awareness to the deadly health and legal consequences of banning abortion since our founding almost a decade ago. Many times, over the years we were called alarmist or exaggerating – people told us that Roe was “settled law.”

We all know what happened next. We stepped up with even more bold and aggressive actions to show the life-changing (and life-saving) benefits of abortion care.

Horrifically, what we anticipated would happen in a post-Roe world did. The consequences of not have access to abortion were deadly.

Thankfully, in a world of misinformation, disinformation, and downright false information on abortion, there are still journalists working to tell the truth about what these bans do. ProPublica won a Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for its series “Life of the Mother,” an important reporting of the pregnant women who died after doctors delayed urgent abortion care.

We salute ProPublica for their work bringing these tragedies to light, honoring the lives that were lost, and standing up, unequivocally, to showcase the truth of what so many anti-abortion leaders try to deny: Abortion is necessary and it saves lives.

We encourage you to read the series and commit to taking action to tell the world that abortion is a necessary and vital part of reproductive justice.

Sincerely,

Erin Matson
