Folks, this is bigger than a jet.
For a moment, let's put aside the obvious: it's against the law for a
sitting president to accept a gift of any kind from any foreign
government.
President Bush even had to turn down a puppy given to him by the President
of Bulgaria. Why? Because that's the law.
But here's the thing: there's no such thing as a free lunch -- and there's
definitely no such thing as a free 400 million dollar "flying palace!"
Qatar isn't in the gift-giving business. They want something in return.
And don't forget: they aren't exactly our best friend either.
Qatar actively sponsors terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda and Hamas. In fact,
they've given Hamas over $1.8 billion to wage war against Israel. They
have close ties with Iran and Saudi Arabia. They provide shelter to
terrorists and extremists who want to see the West destroyed.
