And Congressional Republicans are ready to rubber-stamp him…
John –
Head Start is a shining example of what government can do for working people. For six decades, it's provided pre-K education, healthy meals, and childcare for millions of families.
So it shouldn't come as a shock that Head Start is the latest item on Donald Trump's chopping block. His new budget plan would fully eliminate the program.
Eliminating Head Start would be devastating to the Midwest. Consider how many are enrolled in the program today:
28,397 in Illinois
11,680 in Indiana
6,862 in Iowa
6,267 in Kansas
28,532 in Michigan
10,622 in Minnesota
13,278 in Missouri
5,210 in Nebraska
31,092 in Ohio
14,323 in Wisconsin
Trump thinks that these families should find it harder to feed their children. That they should be forced into the impossible choice between looking after their child or working to pay for living essentials. That their kids be denied basic learning tools at a critical age.
And based on recent history, we have no reason to think that Congressional Republicans will object one bit to any of this.
So we need to get loud. We need to show up and force Republicans to answer a simple question: Are you going to throw working families to the wolves?
We deserve a government that operates on common-sense, compassionate values – such as no child going hungry or being unprepared for school. And we're going to show Republicans that we'll vote them out of office for failing to uphold these values and fight for our kids.
