Dear John,
It’s graduation season!
And while it’s exciting to see high school and college graduates start the next phase of their lives, there’s an often overlooked aspect to graduation: student IDs are likely to expire.
If that person relies on a student ID as their primary form of ID, they might not be able to vote in elections after they graduate.
Luckily, VoteRiders is here to help! We work with all eligible voters — including students and graduates — to ensure they understand the ID rules where they live.

If a recent graduate needs an ID to vote and they can’t use an expired student ID, we’ll work with them to make sure they have a current state-issued photo ID that they can use to vote.
That means helping them track down underlying documents like a birth certificate, helping them to make appointments at the DMV or ID-issuing office, and covering all the costs for fees and transportation. It’s a process that can take a few appointments or a few months, but our voter ID assistance staff and volunteers never give up.
No one should lose their right to vote because they’ve graduated! Be sure to check out our resources for students, and let any graduates in your life know that VoteRiders is here to help them get an ID to vote. >> [link removed]
