When a democracy stops defending due process, it stops being a democracy. That’s exactly what happened when Donald Trump secretly deported over 200 immigrants, without a single court hearing, into the hands of a brutal authoritarian regime in El Salvador.

No trials. No lawyers. No constitutional rights. Just forced disappearances into a prison so notorious that El Salvador’s own officials admit people leave it only “in a coffin.” This state-sponsored human rights abuse, weaponized by a lawless administration that treats the rule of law like it’s optional.

But this time, Trump’s allies can’t block the truth. Senators Tim Kaine, Chris Van Hollen, Alex Padilla, and Chuck Schumer have launched a privileged resolution -- S.Res.195 -- to rip the lid off this crime.

This resolution will bypass the filibuster. It’s immune to Trump’s veto. One simple vote and the administration will be forced to report on human rights violations, on their role in this horror, and on whether your tax dollars are financing state-sponsored torture.

Deporting people without due process isn’t immigration policy, it’s tyranny. It’s the weaponization of government against the vulnerable. And if we let it slide, we’re opening the door for it to happen again.

This is about more than one prison or one president. This is about whether we let authoritarianism rewrite the rules. Whether we still believe in courts, in justice, in the idea that the law should protect people, not disappear them.

If the Senate fails to act, they’re letting Trump off the hook and sending a message to future autocrats: break the law, ignore the courts, and you’ll face nothing but silence.

Push back against Trump’s lawless deportation machine. Tell the Senate to vote YES on S.Res.195. Force the Trump administration to answer for violating the Constitution and human rights.

This is our moment to force the issue. Our moment to demand answers and our moment to show that democracy doesn’t disappear people, it protects them.
